We campaign for routine screening in memory of all our Vasa Praevia Angels. We would love as many families as possible to be part of our upcoming Vasa Praevia Angels Day this October (during Baby Loss Awareness Week). In preparation we shall produce a memorial montage, to remember all those babies lost. If you feel able to share, please do send us a picture of your Vasa Praevia Angel & their name & date of birth, and indeed any other details you are happy to share. You can email us, or send via instagram or facebook messaging; or indeed in the comments on our recent Vasa Praevia Angels Day post on our Social Media.

Vasa Praevia is caused by blood vessels from the umbilical cord crossing the birth canal, resulting in the death of an otherwise healthy baby. If the condition is diagnosed early, then the survival rate is 100 per cent. Rachel and Jamie Bonser from Bestwood in Nottinghamshire, lost their 3 day old baby Abigail in March

Rachel and Jamie Bonser from Bestwood in Nottinghamshire, lost their 3 day old baby Abigail in March 2010. Since then they have been campaigning for awareness of the condition and raising funds to pay for a telephone helpline for women who may be affected.

A couple who lost their baby to a preventable complication of childbirth are calling for all pregnant women to have a simple screening test.

Henry Samat died 13 days after a blood vessel in the placenta ruptured during his delivery.
Despite having a series of transfusions, doctors couldn’t save him.
His parents, Natalie and Daren, now want the NHS National Screening Committee to order all hospitals to include a two minute check of the placenta and umbilical cord during the routine ultrasound scan that is done at 20 weeks of pregnancy.
